Sharing the heart of Jesus in Honduras

Greetings and blessings to our friends and partners.  We pray you and your family are enjoying this time of the year.  Thank you for all your prayers and support.

May

We hope you have had a wonderful spring; it is rainy season here and we have received lots of rain. Rain is so needed here for the farmers and we have passed many fields of beautiful cabbage growing strong. Farmers in the mountains grow potatoes, corn, radishes, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and much more. Much is sold and distributed across Honduras while some is sold in the local markets. A visit to the local market is always fun!

Gene was working with our missionary friends learning and helping to build a rocket stove, a chicken coop and an aquaponics system, we hope to share and help others with these projects. Their friend Bill, from the states was here leading the projects. A few days before Bill had to leave, our friends truck broke down. They took the truck to a mechanic but he had to order several parts which was going to take a few days for the repair. Gene was able to offer to take Bill to the airport, which he did. It is a six-hour round trip to the airport.  We continue to give God the glory for our truck and the many opportunities we have to use it in helping others.

On the Saturday before Mother’s Day, we were able to use our truck to help other missionaries here. They have a small “store” set up in their front yard selling products to those passing by raising money for their ministry. Elizabeth had prepared Mother’s Day gifts to sell along with household items, shoes, blankets, clothes and other items. She had put great effort into in preparing these items and we felt she needed to be in a better place to sell the items so God gave us and idea to help; load everything up in the truck and find a spot downtown to set up. On the weekends many people bring their goods to town and park on the side of the road to sell them. Elizabeth knew the perfect place to set up so on Saturday we drove over, loaded up the items, a tent, a table and headed to town. The spot she wanted was not far from the bus stop and was open so we sat up shop. We were all excited as people came by, stopped and purchased items for their mothers. It was a successful day for Elizabeth and her feeding ministry!

Elizabeth and her husband John were told about a mountain village and wanted to take food to them. They don’t have a vehicle and asked if we could take them. It was a delight to go visit the village of El Pelón. The village was a 45-minute drive off the main road up a rocky, hilly road. We crossed pastures having to stop and open up fences to pass through but made it to the top of the hill where a small school building was. Soon over 40 women and children arrived. John talked with them and shared about how God had plans for their lives then each person received a plate of rice with vegetables and a glass of orange soda. (People here love orange soda.) The plate was heaped up with rice and even the smallest child ate every bite! Sad but sweet to know there are so many hungry people but we can help some of them, a few at a time. Then the children gathered for a piñata party. The piñata was hung and every child got a chance to hit it. Soon the ground was covered with candy and children scrambling to gather it up. What fun! Everyone had a great day! We all were pleased that God had provided a way for feeding and ministering to this village. Praise God!

A team from our home church, Free Chapel in Georgia, came to La Ceiba, Honduras to work with our missionary friends there. We had the privilege of going and helping with this team. It was a wonderful week of loving and serving others as we glorified God.

In his extra time, Gene built us a desk! I know… he’s a computer geek that loves sitting at a desk solving computer problems but he is discovering that he is a handy man also! Building a desk, a shelf, digging a ditch, running pipe and adding an outside water faucet; living on a budget and googling can change a person. We’ve really learned to depend on God for help…and he is faithful.

June

May & June brought a lot of rain to La Esperanza so it was a good time for our land lord to plant grass. He leveled the dirt in the front yard, dug up squares of grass from the path by our house then we helped haul it over and planted it making a beautiful grassy front yard.

June also brought another opportunity to help our missionary friends in La Ceiba with a team from Cleveland Georgia.  We traveled the five-and-a-half-hour trip to work in the kitchen and help out in any way we could.

We also carried Missionary friends John and Elizabeth to the village of Santa Caterina.  There we visited with two families, providing needed food and encouraging words.  The Lord is moving all over this country.  Praise God.

Now it was time for a quick break as we headed back to the states. We were able to spend a few days in Alabama and a few days in Georgia visiting family and friends before heading to Colorado to visit our Colorado home church and friends there and also attend a conference at Charis Bible College where we graduated after attending for 3 years. We had a great time seeing those that we could and being at the conference, we came back to Honduras refreshed and ready to be “The Heart of the King”.

July

We took another trip to La Ceiba to help with the ministry there. With teams of 20 or more people coming in, extra hands are always needed and we are glad to be able to help. This was the Medical team from Whitefields/Omega.  When we returned home, we assisted other missionary friends here in La Esperanza with their visiting team. Part of their ministry was to go to the school where they teach English. We were able to go and assist in translating and helping to keep things running smoothly. It is always great working with teams that have a heart to be used by God.

These are a few of the things we have done over the past few months.  It has been a while since our last newsletter and we apologize for not staying in contact with you better. We do want to keep you informed with all we are doing but when we are really busy, somehow the newsletter is put off. But we never forget you! Your patience, kind messages, thoughts, prayers and support are so encouraging to us. We are thankful God sees all you do and He is your reward! We are very happy to be here serving our Lord.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 NLT
