Sharing the Heart of Jesus in Honduras

Hello Friends,

As we begin this new month, February, the focus is love. There are red hearts everywhere, cupid is hanging around ready to shoot his arrow and the boxes of chocolates, who can resist!  Valentine’s Day is a special day of expressing love to one another but as Christians showing love should be a daily, moment by moment way of life. Usually the little things, like helping to clean the house, doing chores without being told, making extra cookies just for the family, mean so much. Jesus showed love in every story written about Him; He talked with people many rejected; He visited the home of a selfish tax collector; He touched and healed the untouchable sick lepers, Jesus just loved people. He loves you and he loves me! Today and every day, give the gift of love to someone who needs a lift.

We spent 2 and a half weeks in the states around Christmas, visiting family and friends and eating lots of food. Truly, there is no place like home but we were ready to get back to Honduras. We had just moved into our new home in La Esperanza putting everything in one room and locking the door when we left. Construction of our water tank took place while we were gone and we were excited to have water with good water pressure when we got back – the shower works now! January was busy for us personally as we insulated the doors and windows to keep the wind and dust out of the house and began getting everything in its place. It was a crazy first two weeks getting up every day and searching through boxes for socks and warm clothes then going through boxes to find pots, pans and plates. Yes, it has been cold here; actually La Esperanza is the coldest city in Honduras. Temperatures in the night falls into the high 40’s with gusty, whistling winds blowing through the trees many nights. Usually the days warm up into the 60’s or even 70’s but I (Robin) usually leave the house with a jacket on! Warmer weather comes in April so we are looking forward to seeing what lies ahead; heat, rain, winds; we will take it one day at a time.

While we make connections and contacts and prepare to start recovery and discipleship ministry, we have been serving with other missionaries here in Honduras.  Recently, we have been and continue to assist fellow missionaries with their youth club. This has been a good experience for us getting out and learning more about the Honduran life style. Family fun time and playing games is not a part of the lifestyle here at all. Dodge ball, basketball, checkers, Jinga and other games have to be taught to the kids which gives a great opportunity to teach biblical morals, responsibility and respect.  This time in a fun, Christian atmosphere also helps to give the youth things to do and stay out of trouble. We have enjoyed our time working with this ministry and the youth around La Esperanza. Sharing laughter, running and playing is a great way to show God’s love!

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.  God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.  1 John 4:16 NLT
