Heart of the King Ministries – Newsletter

We serve a great big wonderful God! That’s a song we sung growing up and it is still true. Daily we can see the love of God in the small things as well as the big things, He is good!

After being in our house for 9 months we wanted to get a comfortable couch and love seat. We had been sitting in plastic chairs or in chairs around the kitchen table and they are not that comfortable, especially for having company over. Good furniture stores are three hours away and we had looked several times when we were in the city but had not found anything. Knowing we were going back to the city, I asked a friend to pray with us that we would find a set we liked. Praise God we did! The sales manager helped us and he spoke English! We told him we had been in the store 3 times before but did not find anything we liked and praise God we found something this time. Very surprised he said the set we bought was very popular and they had kept one on display for a long time; probably it was sold out when we came before. With the prayer of agreement, we know God worked things out for our good. The set was on the floor and available just for us! Having friends over now is great and comfortable!

Our friends John & Elizabeth are missionaries here and they don’t have a car. He was asked to preach at a church in a city 30 miles from us. We were able to carry them over, attend service with them and help pray for the people afterwards. It was a great service where many lives were touched and blessed.

September is a month of many holidays and celebrations; Día de Independencia, Día de niño, Día de maestro & Día de Biblia. Everyone celebrates with parties and parades. Honduras Independence day is celebrated on September 15 with a parade. The school where Gene teaches, South West School, was represented by the senior class, a drum corp and faculty. We joined in the parade wearing our hats, marching down the street celebrating Honduras. Children´s Day is celebrated at the school with the older grades hosting fun activities for the elementary kids and the elementary kids bring in food for the older kids. A favorite celebration for all. After a Saturday meeting, the teachers went out for a nice lunch to celebrate Day of the Teachers. On September 29, “Day of the Bible” was celebrated here in La Esperanza.  Hondurans have a lot of respect for God and the Bible.  Churches and Christian schools celebrate with a parade marching down the main street of town. There were groups carrying signs with Bible verses, decorated trucks and many local churches marching in honor of the Bible. Early Sunday morning, we helped some friends decorate their truck and then were able to find a good spot on the street to watch the parade. We give God the glory for this act of worship and honor to His word.

We were blessed to attend a Fall Missionary Conference for missionaries in Honduras. There were about 30 families in attendance and we made many new acquaintances as well as seeing old friends. The guest pastor was from Johnson University, a Christian college in Tennessee, a good ole southerner! It was a refreshing time and we pray the new connections made there by us and others will bring new hope to Honduras.

Gene’s Bible classes at South West School are going well. He teaches 5 classes, 7th – 11th grade every Tuesday. They are studying the book of John with a goal for this school year of  “Hearing from God”.  Join us as we pray for the students that as they read the book of John, they will hear from God and move into a personal relationship with Him that will guide them through their lives.

Our landlord’s parents, a brother and a sister live next door. The brother, David called one night and asked if we could take them to visit his grandmother who is 92 years old and very near death. We agreed and Robin decided not to go so that more of the family could go and not have to sit in the bed of the truck. The grandparents live about 2 hours away; you go through a town, drive down a country road then drive down a narrow trail then walk 15 minutes crossing a creek to get to their house. The family planned to stay all day so they took bags of food so they could make soup to serve everyone for lunch.  The grandmother was very sick, a tiny lady that did not move or talk much. The grandfather, 89 years old, is not well. He sat on the porch crying and praying. Our landlord is a pastor so he talked with both of his grandparents, prayed with them and sang to them. The grandmother is still alive so please join with us as we pray for peaceful last days for her and strength for the husband and the rest of the family.

As you can see, we are not “ordinary” missionaries. We are missionaries of hope and help. –at least for this time. We attend 2 weekly Bible studies with other missionaries which is great time for all especially since it is in English. This time of sharing food, fellowship and just relaxing as we discuss the Bible, our weekly activities, dreams and disappointments is building strong relationships among ourselves and leading us closer to God. Our desire is to stay available to help those that God puts in our path. Prayer is a big part of our ministry. Remember the WWJD phrase? We watched a movie where this was the theme. I felt the need to pray WWJHMD? (What would Jesus have me do?) We see many needy situations, many needy people but we don’t feel that we are called to meet every need that comes in front of us. We do pray for those with broken down cars, for the intoxicated laying on the side of the road, for the beggars standing at the red lights, those needing jobs and other hurting people. We too, want ears to “Hear from God” and we want to obey His voice. Your prayers strengthen us so we ask that you continue to remember us as we strive to follow God moment by moment and we give God the glory for positive changes coming to Honduras.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable.  Psalm 145:3
